Beck - Guero

I’ve never listened to Beck much before, but I heard some songs off one of his recent albums Guero today, and I liked what I heard. So here’s a sampling of one of his songs from Guero. It’s got a pretty steady bass line and drums, which give it a great rhythm, and then the guitar chords come in nicely onto that bass & drums background. Have a listen!

Jazz Manouche

I found a fantastic two-disc album of Django Reinhardt covers by some of his greatest successors. It’s called Jazz Manouche, and it features such artists as Bireli Lagrene, John Jorgensen, The Rosenberg Trio, and many more. Bireli Lagrene happens to be one of my favourites, so here’s his cover of one of Django’s great songs.

Dikanda

Dikanda is a Polish folk band.  They are inspired by traditional Eastern European folk songs, but unlike many old folk bands, they have a really full band of instruments (accordion, violin, guitar, bass, drums, and vocals) which makes the arrangements really amazing.  These are two of my favourite songs of theirs:

Jens Lekman

Basically, this song is beautiful. Jens Lekman is amazing, period. The calypso beats in “Happy Birthday, Dear Friend Lisa” and the imagery of Jehovahs interrupting birthday parties are basically my life. I love it. Listen and loveit too.

PIC

I recently discovered PIC. He’s from California and I know very little about him. His style ranges from indie, to rap, to electronic. And his track “Systematik” is pretty good. There are plenty of synthesized, trippy beats to satisfy me. Check out his other tracks on his MySpace page.
